Four Tips for Finding a Good Personal Trainer

Four tips for finding a good personal trainer

People seek out personal trainers for any number of reasons. Whether you’re a top-performing athlete looking to smash through a training barrier or break a personal record or you’re just looking to reach a weight loss or fitness goal, personal trainers can give you the attention and expert feedback you need. However, not all personal trainers offer the right combination of experience and knowledge for your individual needs.

Finding a good personal trainer requires not just looking at credentials and experience, although that’s extremely important; it also means finding someone you are comfortable with and can develop a productive relationship with. To help you narrow down your search, we’re happy to share the following guide. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or want to learn more about our services.

Solid advice for finding a good personal trainer for your needs

Here are some important considerations to help with your search for a personal trainer:

  1. Clearly develop your goals — It’s important to have a solid understanding of exactly what you’re looking to get out of personal training. The more information you can provide in this regard, the better you can narrow your search and start to develop an effective plan with your trainer.
  2. Research credentials, experience and reputation — Ask about specialized certifications in the areas you’re seeking training in. Find out if they have trained similar athletes and people in your situation. Do online research and ask other people in your circles for good recommendations.
  3. Always ask for an initial consultation — Before committing to any number of sessions, you should absolutely have a face-to-face session to determine if your goals and personality align with your trainer’s.
  4. Trust your gut — A personal trainer is just that, a trainer for you personally. More than anything, you need to feel comfortable expressing your goals, receiving feedback and communicating with this person or there’s a good chance you won’t reach your objectives. Even if you’ve checked every other box, you need to feel good about the person you’re going to work with.
