Kettlebell Training, Exercises, and Classes

Kettlebell workouts combine foundational, full-body movements with cardio exercise, strength training, and metabolic conditioning, together creating a simple exercise regimen offered at SOL Performance in Oakland and SOL Santa Cruz.

Using bodyweight resistance and a single tool, the kettlebell, workouts engage nearly all of your body’s muscles into a single exercise that flows with the way your body was designed to move. These full-body workouts burn fat, build strength and improve endurance.

The star of the show, so to speak – the kettlebell – is a rounded, cast-iron weight with a handle extending from the top that resembles a tea kettle. Kettlebells date back to the 18th Century, during which time Russian special forces utilized kettlebell workouts and techniques to train for rigorous athletic activity.
Kettlebells only caught on in the U.S. about 15 years ago, but recently their popularity has exploded. Many professional athletes and celebrities have incorporated kettlebell exercises into their daily training regimens.

Kettlebell workouts are intense, offering the ability to burn up to 1,200 calories per hour – the equivalent of running at a 6-minute-mile pace. SOL Performance Training and SOL Santa Cruz offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced kettlebell classes that emphasize movement, focus, and consistency. Exercises, such as the swing, get-up, press, snatch, front squat, and clean, are designed to build strength and stamina.

“At SOL Performance Training and SOL Santa Cruz, we love kettlebell workouts,” said Tammara Moore, founder of SOL Physical Therapy and SOL Performance training. “They combine foundational body movements with cardio, motion, and strength training into one simple and safe exercise method.”

In addition, Moore says kettlebell training is also an excellent option for rehab and post-rehabilitation.

“It helps many overcome muscular back, neck, and shoulder pain,” she said. “What’s not to love?”
