Types of Fitness Classes

Three types of fitness classes that could benefit you

There are so many fitness classes out there that it can be hard to choose one. From yoga to HIIT training classes, the choices range in intensity, and many classes can be tailored to beginners or ramped up for serious gym rats. The question, then, is which fitness classes can offer you the greatest benefits? Here are three types of fitness classes that can offer you many benefits:

  1. TRX training

TRX is a type of fitness class that uses a piece of equipment called the TRX suspension system. This equipment looks sort of like your childhood swingset; however, instead of swings, it has lots of different-length straps hanging from it. Originally developed by the Navy SEALs, TRX training uses these straps to do exercises that focus on strengthening the core muscles, and the resistance for TRX exercises is provided by your body weight. Other exercises in this type of class are designed to help improve flexibility, balance and the stability of joints.

  1. Boot camps

Sir, yes sir! Oops. Just trying to get into the boot camp spirit. Boot camps are another type of fitness class that has military roots, and the focus of these classes is conditioning the entire body. Boot camp classes tend to focus on strength training that’s based on traditional exercises like lunges and squats. They also tend to incorporate running and jumping movements too, and the combination of the strength and conditioning exercises is sure to leave you completely drained and dripping with sweat. There are thousands of boot camp class variations, so finding one that works for you shouldn’t be too difficult.

  1. HIIT

Are you ready to work out until you drop? It sounds like high intensity interval training (HIIT) could be the best fit for you. This type of class tends to be shorter than others, because it’s designed to kick your butt quickly and thoroughly. The way HIIT works is you’ll do one exercise as hard as you can for 30 seconds to a minute. Then you’ll get a short rest before moving on to the next exercise. Most of the time, these exercises are cardio focused, and common exercises used in HIIT include burpees and squat jumps. However, abs and body weight strength exercises are also popular in this type of fitness class.
