SOL Performance – You will love Russian Kettlebell Training!

Oakland sports rehab and fitness training center, SOL Performance Training, a cutting-edge facility that bridges the gap between physical therapy and personal training, recently began to offer a variety of workouts with Russian kettlebells, a time-honored training method that studies show is effective for weight loss, strength training and rehabilitation. Kettlebell training from SOL Performance Training—whether it’s in a group class or a semi-private or one-on-one session—can help transform the bodies of everyone from novices to professional athletes, to people looking to get back into shape after an injury.

“At SOL Performance Training, we love Russian kettlebell workouts. They combine foundational body movements, with cardio, motion and strength training into one simple and safe exercise method,” explains Tammara Moore, founder of SOL Physical Therapy and SOL Performance Training. “Plus, kettlebell training is an excellent method of rehab and post-rehabilitation, and helps many overcome muscular back, neck and shoulder pain. What’s not to love?”

For hundreds of years, Russian soldiers and athletes have trained with kettlebells; rounded weights with a handle on top that are named for their resemblance to a tea kettle. They only caught on in the U.S. around 15 years ago, but their popularity has recently exploded, with many celebrities and professional athletes adding kettlebells to their training regimens.

The combination of movement and weight that comes from kettlebell training exercises—swings, squats, presses, snatches—provides an excellent workout that helps people lose weight, strengthen muscles and improve movement flow. Studies have shown that kettlebell routines burn calories at an astounding rate—20.2 calories per minute, which is the equivalent of running at 6 mph—while building strength. Many people have found they can cut their old workout time in half by substituting separate cardio and strength training with kettlebell training, and get even better results.

However, kettlebells are not just for athletes and movie stars. They can also be helpful for people trying to overcome injuries and chronic pain. The movements involved in kettlebell training, particularly in kettlebell swings, strengthen the entire posterior chain of the body, helping to strengthen weak muscles and improve the connection and flow by loading the entire kinetic chain of the body. A study cited by the New York Times found that office workers in Denmark who began exercising three times a week with kettlebells reduced lower back pain by 57 percent and neck and shoulder pain by 46 percent, and also improved core strength.

The fitness training leaders at SOL Performance Training are dedicated to teaching people how to safely and effectively train with kettlebells. They offer two group kettlebell classes:

“Whether you’re looking to lose weight, gain strength, or ease nagging chronic pain, kettlebell training is one of the fastest, most effective training methods out there. SOL can teach you how to safely perform kettlebell training, so you can start getting the most out of your workouts right away,” says Moore.
